Guitar Auction to Benefit Tennessee Flood Victims

28 May, 2010

What do Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Danny Gokey, Alan Jackson, George Jones, The Judds, Jake Owen, Rascal Flatts, and Darius Rucker have in common? They have all contributed guitars that they have designed that will go to Guitars of the Stars Benefit Auction, which will raise funds for Tennessee flood relief.

Chris Young gets the honor of setting the tone for the event by performing songs from his current album The Man I Want To Be. Young is also donating a guitar that will be personalized for a winning bidder at the auction.

The benefit will be on June 11, 2010, and will be held at the Ryman Auditorium. Emcee will be Bill Cody, host of GAC TV's Master Series, which can be seen on DISH Network, and all proceeds from the auction will go to the Opry Trust Fund, where it will be set aside for victims of this month's Middle Tennessee floods.

Freedom of Speech Will Prevail

21 May, 2010

This weekend, tea party organizers will continue with plans to have a speaker at a Tennessee convention in spite of requests from a national Muslim rights group that finds her anti-Islamic, citing the constitution that allows us freedom of speech.

Pamela Geller has been singled out by The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), urging that she be cut from the Tennessee Tea Party convention because of her views on Muslims; specifically, CAIR said in a release Thursday, her presentation titled "The Threat of Islam."

This should prove to be interesting, considering the recent brouhaha brought about by South Park's depiction of Muslims. Be sure to keep on top of events by watching local news channels that are part of basic DISH Network packages.

Accused Body Snatcher Wants Justice

14 May, 2010

Ron Tyler wonders why moving live bodies is so much more difficult than moving dead ones. Especially since Clarence Bailey, a 42 year-old man who is accused of killing Tyler’s mother and shooting three of his children during a home invasion in 1992, sits in a Memphis jail awaiting extradition to Texas.

Tyler was accused with attempting to steal Elvis Presley’s body shortly after the icon died. He was never charged. Later, he stated that it was part of a plan masterminded by Presley’s father, who was denied permission to bury The King at Graceland.

Tyler was watching an episode of The First 48, which was taped in Memphis and aired by DISH Network on A&E TV, when he recognized the man he had reason to believe killed his mother over an argument about a bond. “I actually think that Clarence Bailey is the one who pulled the trigger on my mother,” he said.

Bailey’s attorney, who is fighting extradition on behalf of the accused, said another hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Looters Looming Large

7 May, 2010

Mother Nature had horrible timing when she unleashed torrents of water onto Tennessee on May 2nd, flooding Music City USA, a town that had their minds on hosting the CMT Music Awards on June 9th, 2010.

The desolation is extensive, and now 52 counties are asking for federal aid. So far, 6 counties have qualified for FEMA funds.

Instead of having the luxury of undisturbed preparation for the much-anticipated gala, residents of Nashville now need to be concerned for their own safety. Neighborhood watch programs are stepping up their efforts due to the threat of looters.

It is unfortunate that a natural disaster like this brings out the worst in criminals, which is why having an ADT Home Security system could be invaluable. You never know what that sporadic Mother Nature has in mind!

I'm a Cowboy, Baby

With Kid Rock hosting the CMT Music Awards, the show is sure to be awesome. Well, at least, that’s what he said via his official Facebook Page, but about himself. “All I can promise is I will be awesome” the update read. That can only mean the CMT Music awards will be awesome too, right?

Right! The CMT Music Awards will feature performances from country music’s greatest stars including Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, and Toby Keith. How can you go wrong with a lineup like that? The hoedown is scheduled to air live Wednesday June 9th from the Bridgestone Arena on CMT, which is part of packaging offered by DISH Network, at 7 PM CST.

You can vote for your favorite country music star through May 3rd by visiting CMT. On May 11th, finalist voting commences and continues through June 8th.
